This project comprised a large scale retail and residential intervention and correction to a “damaged” site in the very heart of Maastricht in the south of the Netherlands.  The style has embraced historical values and the cultural continuum. On this scale the past served to define a positive condition and juxtaposed the vernacular without the homogenity; blending and complementing contemporary elements with a classical language of the architrave, frieze and cornice.  The language distilled from concept to narrative, form and detail with a search of composition, proportion, depth and balance. The result: “not a stranger in the city but a family member” sheltering, trusting embracing and inspiring.
